Commercial fruit transport

An important component of any trade (domestic or international) is the need to meet biosecurity or quarantine requirements which the trading partner requires.

For domestic trade a good starting point is to refer to the Australian Interstate Quarantine website. The site lists current domestic market access options along with regulator contacts for further information.

Fruit flies are a significant pest for our international trading partners as well, and there is an expectation that fruit and vegetables are free from fruit fly. For exporting to international markets Austrade has developed a guide which highlights the process including regulations and the need for phytosanitary treatment.

The Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry also has a range of tools available to assist including the Plant Export Operations Manual and the Manual of Importing Country Requirements which detail the technical requirements for export.
