• NFFC Webinar: eTools and Area Wide Management in action image

The National Fruit Fly Council (NFFC) kicked off the year with its first Think Tank webinar, e-Tools and Area Wide Management (AWM): what does success look like?

The session held on 4 February, featured Bron Koll, Queensland Fruit Fly (QFF) Regional Coordinator in the Yarra Valley, Victoria, who shared insights from her work in fruit fly management and the development of a new e-learning platform.

Ms Koll, who has been leading fruit fly management efforts in the region since 2017, provided an overview of the strategies used in the Yarra Valley to manage QFF, highlighting the role of AWM in reducing pest pressure across the region. She highlighted the importance of surveillance, community engagement, and education, noting that effective fruit fly management requires a collaborative approach between growers, industry, government and urban residents.

She introduced the Queensland Fruit Fly Management Toolbox, an e-learning resource designed to help regional coordinators, community leaders, and industry stakeholders access independent, science-based information. The platform offers practical tools for fruit fly identification, prevention, and control, ensuring that best-practice management strategies are widely accessible.
