National Fruit Fly Council meeting
9 June 2016
The National Fruit Fly Council met on 2 June 2016, bringing together representatives from industry, governments and research funders to continue work on developing the National Fruit Fly Strategy Action Plan. The Action Plan provides details on the range of fruit fly specific research, development, extension and policy required to improve fruit fly management and market access, identifies the priority activities and is a reference for tracking progress.
The Council also heard from Dr Penny Measham, Qfly Area Wide Management Coordinator at Horticulture Innovation Australia, about work to develop guidelines for adaptive area wide management. This work is seeking to inform and improve on-the-ground fruit fly control and support regions to be in a position to effectively implement the Sterile Insect Technique.
